Brit Releases New Book on Asbestos Legacy

A British citizen who lived and worked in the town known as the birthplace of the modern asbestos industry is releasing his second book about the destructive legacy of asbestos and asbestos exposure. A book signing will be held in the town tonight.

According to an article on Rochdale Online, Geoffrey Tweedale previously penned a book entitled "Magic Mineral - Killer Dust", and has just co-written "Defending the Indefensible", which brings up to date the story of asbestos victims at Rochdale's Turner and Newall asbestos factory, once the largest such facility in the world.

Shocking revelations will be made about the Rochdale asbestos factory in the book, says a representative from Save Spodden Valley, a campaign which profiles the plight of asbestos victims in Greater Manchester, England.

Campaign leader Jason Addy said: "Tonight's message in Rochdale will be clear. People must be put before profit. Too many of us know first-hand the dangers of asbestos. History must not repeat itself."

Plans to build 600 homes and a daycare center on the site of the former Turner and Newall factory are currently on hold, the article points out.
